Blackfeet Men and Women

According to the Blackfeet, in the beginning each gender had its own community. The women lived well but the men were very poor because they had weapons but didn’t know how to make clothes or tipis, or how to preserve meat. Eventually, the men travelled to the women’s village. At first the men refuse to obey the chief of the women. But after she turns one man into a pine tree, the rest decide to work together!

The story teaches that the combination of the women’s skills and the men’s tools is essential for the creation of a prosperous society and a brilliant plan for living.
