This map of North America from an 1845 atlas shows the political boundaries of the continent immediately before the United States - Mexican War. The core map, supplemental historic maps and texts, and modern maps serve as an excellent introduction to the political and cultural context of the mid-nineteenth century in which the geographical growth of the United States occurred.
