The Death of Elizabeth

When Elizabeth became queen of England, her ill-wishers predicted that her unstable health will soon fail her. But she defied these predictions and held the throne of England for nearly forty-five years. When her time came at last in March of 1603, the nation was well prepared. Poets wrote elegies and lamentations for Elizabeth, and the designs for an extravagant funeral procession were soon underway.
