Roger Ascham (1515-1568) was one of the leading educators and classical scholars of the Tudor period. After studying at Cambridge, he tutored Princess Elizabeth in Greek and also instructed her brother Edward when he was king. In addition to the Scholemaster, his best known work is Toxophilus, a philosophical essay about archery.
