Raster family letters [in German and English], 1871-1923
Correspondence between Hermann Raster, a German immigrant "Forty-Eighter" and editor of the Illinois Staats-Zeitung, and his family. Series also includes correspondence between his family members. Raster’s letters cover topics such as his experiences and feelings as an immigrant in New York City, the aftermath of the Chicago fire in 1871, and his thoughts on the political climate of his time.
