Language Lessons

Lesson One is the first of sixty lessons students undertake when studying the Amskapi Pikuni (Blackfeet) language. Completion of the sixty-lesson plan provides the student with comprehensive instruction in Blackfeet.

The lessons were compiled from the field notes of anthropologist Jack Holterman who studied Blackfeet history and language beginning in the 1930s. His Blackfeet dictionary is still considered the most thorough guide to the language. Nizipuhwahsin staff members studied Holterman’s notes and his interviews with tribal members and elders as they prepared classroom materials like this.
