ALA Traveling Exhibit

The American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office, in partnership with The Newberry Library of Chicago and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) have named 40 public and academic libraries across the country as sites for the "Elizabeth I: Ruler and Legend" traveling exhibit tour. This new exhibit commemorates the 400th anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth I of England and encourages audiences not only to reacquaint themselves with the Queen, but also to become more familiar with the historical and cultural forces that shaped her personality and her time, and to examine the mixture of history and legend that continues to surround her today.

The libraries selected for the tour will host the exhibit for a six-week period between October 2003 and March 2006. Libraries will make the exhibit available for public viewing and host a number of educational programs and receptions to increase the public's understanding and study of the exhibit and its themes. All showings of the exhibition and related programs will be free and open to the public.
