A Packe of Spanish Lyes, Sent Abroad in the World: First printed in Spaine in the
Spanish tongue, and translated out of the Originall. Now ripped up, unfolded, and by just examination condemned, as conteyning false, corrupt, and detestable wares, worthy to be damned and burned (London, 1588)

At first the Spanish did not realize they had lost the battle of the Armada. They circulated pamphlets proclaiming a great Spanish victory. In response, A packe of Spanish lyes vividly refuted the Spanish claims. English and Spanish versions are printed in parallel columns, with bold letters to show where the Spanish boasts were false. The war of swords and cannon ended in a war of words that lasted for fifteen years until a treaty of peace was signed in 1604, the year after Elizabeth's death.
