The Geneva Bible celebrated Elizabeth's decision to restore Protestantism in England, casting Elizabeth in the role of Deborah who had incited the Israelites to resist oppression by the Canaanites. Ultimately, however, Elizabeth believed that one's personal religious beliefs and true expression of faith were a private matter.
