Even after her death, Elizabeth continued to inspire creative stories about her life. Thomas Heywood's play depicts her ordeals during the reign of her sister Mary I. This is one of a series of works by Heywood, who created a small "Elizabeth industry" of drama, history, and fiction in the early seventeenth century.
